Just refilled my Lantis prescription, I'm in the Donut Hole,
Insurance paid $126.72, I paid $128.21, total $254.93.
In 2010 the total was $97.83 per refill.
In 2011 it jumped from $104.57 per refill to $238.36
by 1/12.
Them drug companies are ripping us seniors off.
Paying half my ass, they have just jacked up the price.
I can see where this is going, when SCOTUS shoots
down ObamaCare, Obama is going to say, "See what
happened? You people are going to pay more for drugs."
Looks like my Congress critters are going to get a nasty
letter.

Sympathy, and welcome the real world (from your conservative fantasy
land). That Big Pharma is ripping people off is nothing new, and
they're not so picky as to limit it to seniors.

I don't live in a fantasy world, you're confusing me with a liberal.
I know I can't spend my way out of debt, I know we can't tax
the rich to death. The new President of France plans to tax the rich
at 75%, wealthy Jews are already planning on moving to Switzerland,
so how many wealthy will be left to tax? The government set the capital
gains tax at 15% to encourage investments in businesses which creates
jobs and a larger tax base. The wealthy get a good return on investment
which they reinvest in more business and industry creating more jobs
and an increased tax base. Now Obama say we have to punish the
wealthy for investing their money in business and industry by taking
away their profits and incentive to invest.
Does that make sense?

Obamacare is why the price went up.

Well yeah, I know that. One of the early features was that
when seniors hit the Donut Hole they would only have to
pay half price for their drugs instead of full pop. Apparently
what the drug companies have done, seemingly with collusion
with Medicare, is raise the drug prices so the the "half price"
is now "full price and then some." Since the price outside the
Donut Hole has doubled it's draining Medicare even faster.

I wonder ... was it really an "UNINTENDED" Consequence ?

Medicare Part D was written such that Medicare wasn't allowed to use
it's clout to get volume discounts from Big Pharma (as every other
large, national and corporate, health system in the world does), as a
result Medicare buying the drugs didn't drive the price down any. All
Obama Care did with Medicare Part D was close the donut hole, Big
Pharma still has total control of the prices.

As to whether or not it was unintended, Big Pharma got exactly what
they wanted.

Big Pharma was a strong supporter of ObamaCare, the Half Price prescription
deal was supposed to mollify seniors opposed to ObamaCare until the law
went into effect. The Obama administration didn't expect the strength of the
opposition or that the challenges to the law would reach the Supreme Court.
My guess is that Big Pharma early on realized that the law probably would
not
pass Constitutional muster and decided to raise prices to mitigate any
losses.

I don't think the Obama administration even considered consequences.
They passed ObamaCare and as far as they were concerned it was the
law of the land. The Half Price prescriptions during the Donut Hole
was supposed to mollify the senior citizens opposed to ObamaCare
until it kicked in fully in 2014. The administration never expected the
level of opposition and 28 lawsuits that ended up at SCOTUS.
I think that Big Pharma saw the handwriting on the wall and decided
to cut losses early and the administration is turning a blind eye to the
increased prices to keep Big Pharma on it's side.
