Went to see a urologist yesterday.
He put this scope up my dick and ....
OW!

I guess he was expecting to see a really FULL bladder, that I wasn't
able to drain. Instead he found almost nothing up there, in spite of
my incredible need to pee.

However, he DID say that I had a raging prostate infection.
Made a lot of sense to ME; matching my symptoms perfectly.
So, he put me on this course of antibiotics that I have to take for
six weeks.
I asked, "How long before I start feeling the effects of the
medicine?" After all, if it's a six-weeks course ....
"Oh ... About five days."

So ... at least another three or four days of misery.
;-{

They all kept asking me if it was painful urinating, or if I had blood
in the urine. Well, I *didn't* until he shoved that tube up me!

Ah well.

Ah well.
I'm glad to hear they found the source of the problem. Hope the
meds work quickly.

Makes sense, if the prostate is infected it swells and pinches the
urinary tube from the bladder. Difficulty urinating is the first sign
of prostate problems.
While I never had that problem my family doctor said I had an
elevated PSA and sent me to a urologist. After blood and urine samples
were analyzed the urologist said I probably had cancer but at my
age and with my other ailments one of them would probably kill me
before the cancer. Nice guy, Any way, I asked what could be done
and he said that first they had to do a biopsy to see how bad it was.
Well that was an adventure, Bubba shoving his Johnson up there would
have been nothing compared the telephone pole the doctor used.
A few weeks later I go back for the results and guess what? No cancer.
He did put me on Avodart which costs and arm and a leg and refuses
to prescribe the generic which my pharmacist recommended.
I wonder if he gets a kickback from the drug company,

Actually, difficulty urinating is NOT the problem I have.
It's that any time there's more than about an ounce of urine in my
bladder, my prostate yells at me, "You've got to go PEEEEE!!!"

So, I get up, drain my bladder, and am fine ... for about five to
fifteen minutes until my kidneys produce another ounce or two.

Gaaaaahhhh!

The doctor was surprised: When he looked around up there with that
cytoscope, he expected a full bladder that wasn't being drained;
especially as I was about screaming with a need to go pee. Instead,
only about an ounce of liquid was up there.
Even when he drained THAT, I still had to go pee again about five
minutes later.

The pressure, even if very minor, on the prostate triggers the need to
urinate ... and urinate ... and urinate ... and ....

Just while sitting here typing this, I had to get up and go pee twice.
And ... now my butt is getting bloody. ;-{

I just called the health-line-nurse for the local clinic; and they'll
get back to me.

Does make you wonder sometimes, doesn't it?
Sometimes? All the time.
Didya know that depending on which side the doctor signs the prescription
determines if a generic can be prescribed?
Around here a number of doctors are skipping the written prescription and
e-mailing them direct to the patient's Pharmacy.

Mine always does.
By sending them directly from his computer to theirs, it cuts down on
mistakes made by bad doctor-handwriting. A good thing, IMO.

He also allows generics to be substituted if the pharmacy suggests it;
and suggests himself cheaper replacements if I can't afford the
brand-name.

I like my doctor.

Mine explained about the signing and always signs on the generic side
even if there is no generic.

I like my doctor.
I like my personal physician it's that dammed urologist who insists I
use Avodart instead of the generic. I'm friendly with my pharamacist
and she was the one who suggested the generic and asked if I would
mind if she contacted the urologist. She said the generic was just as
effective and would save me some $600 a year. With my brand name
meds I hit the donut hole by the end of March each year.
Apparantly the guy almost took her head off for suggesting it.
Frankly I don't thing I ever had a prostate problem and I read that the
PSA test is not always a reliable indicator.
Hope you're feeling better. :))

I think I made a funny.

Seriously I know the feeling, injured my left leg a year ago
this month, took forever for the surgical wound to heal.
Being diabetic all I could think about was losing the leg.

I know the feeling, if not the exact situation.
I worry about losing my feet ... to fungal-infections like athlete's
foot. When I'm really sick otherwise, such infections that already
were bothersome go completely out-of-control. The thought that they
might have to chop off one or both feet for such a simple thing ....

Like you say, being diabetic makes you worry about such things.

It seems many people do. ;-{

Fortunately today the medical profession can do a lot more to heal foot
injuries that used to turn to gangrene and loss of the limb. When my
wound wasn't healing the surgeon sent me to the hospital wound care
department. They cleaned it up, cut out some dead tissue and packed
it with a paste, did this twice a week for 4 weeks. By then the wound
had almost closed up. Took another couple of weeks but it finally
healed. The problem that persisted was the redness and scaling.
Went to a dermatoligist who said I had stasis dermatitis caused by
the swelling and blood vessels leaking fluid that irritates the skin and
causes the rash. A cream applied twice daily is curing that.
None of this was around 50-60 years ago, if you were a diabetic
and got a foot injury there was little the medical profession could do
except amputate the limb.
So if you have foot problems hike on over to the doctor, there's things
that they can do to cure them.

Not the same; but still better than nothing.

Creams, sprays, washes ....
Lately I've been trying soaking my feet in vinegar.
They say that ascetic acid is a powerful fungicide.
Next I'm going to try soaking in bleach.
Bleach is supposed to kill all sorts of nasty things.

They all HELP. None CURE.

The closest to a cure is oral Lamasil; but with all the other meds I'm
taking, the doctor doesn't want to stress my liver that much.

Even with that, you still tend to get re-infected.
