Merry Christmas Frank and the best to your family.
Thank you.
Not too merry this year though.
The wife is in the hospital.
Something happened, and her mind just seems to have gone off into
Neverland. We were getting ready for Christmas, and Phppttt!
All of a sudden it wasn't my wife staring back at me.
Sometimes she seems to be slightly aware of what's going on, and then
she fades out again. ;-{

I can't even spend a lot of time with her, as their visiting hours are
only from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.

Didn't she have something like this a few months ago? I thought they
figured it out then. Maybe the same thing?

No. That was balance problems. They figured out it was her
medication; so they changed it. Perhaps this is a problem with the
new medication they changed her to about a week or so ago ... Or
perhaps not. There wasn't any warning this time. One minute she was
OK, doing housework in the living-room, ten minutes later she was
lying on the bed, completely out of it.

About two years ago she went out of it, but not the same way. They
never did figure back then what went wrong. She just got better
pretty much on her own ... but it took her over two weeks.

The way she looked this time reminded me somewhat of an allergy
reaction ... But reaction to WHAT? Can't figure that out; because the
only thing new was medication she'd been taking for over a week
without anything happening. The doctors are *trying* different meds.

Good Thoughts from me.

I do hope they've thoroughly checked for any form of (benign or not)
growth that might cause this sort of thing.

As to that medication--it can take a week or more for some meds' blood
levels to build up. So it's possible that the new med took a week to
get to a concentration enough to affect her.

Again, may all go well, and she be back home soon.

The problem seems to have been a massive urinary infection.
The last time she was in the hospital, they found a urinary infection
also.

Sorry to hear that; I'm not medically-minded enough to make any
suggestion, apart from possibly something like diabetes (low blood
sugar) which can come on very suddenly. Doesn't usually last, though.

Do they still have fixed visisting hours? I thought it was all

All the best to you both.

Most hospitals I'm familiar with have more or less fixed visiting
hours--BUT most also make exception for the spouse. I used to go in
through the ER entrance to visit my wife in the middle of the night
during one long hospitalization of hers.

For the "Behavioural Health Services" department only.
The rest of the hospital makes exceptions for spouses.

Suggestion: Do a Google search on the name of the medication and the
symptom, and see if it's a known, but infrequent, side effect, and if it
is bring it to the attention of the doctors, who may not know as much as
they should, and almost never know as much as they think they do.

They've got me coming back Tuesday ... Which will probably be my last
day there. They seem to like my work; but I've been working myself
out of a job, helping them catch up with a lot of stuff they got
behind on over the year.

The wife is back home now, and I'm feeling a lot better myself.
They never did find anything wrong with me except the symptoms (which
were pretty bad).

I'm glad to hear that she's better and back home, and that it wasn't
something more serious. BTW I think I'd think about checking into the
possibility that she has some sort of chronic infection in her urinary
track. Also, based on folk wisdom, you might consider adding
cranberries or cranberry juice to her diet.

From your description of your symptoms it sounds like you might have
had "stomach flu", aka, food poisoning.

You and your family have a very good New Years.
Nope ... It wasn't.
Some kind of viral stomach flu I presume.
Trouble is:
The wife caught it when she came home.

Spent last night barfing in the bathroom all over the walls and floor
and everything near the can. Guess who got to clean it up? Yeah,
diarrhea too. Shit.

This morning the kid says got's the craps too, and also feels like
vomiting.

Took the wife down to see the doc this afternoon ... And the doc says
she *still* has some of the urinary infection, with a high white-cell
count and blood still in the urine; so she gave us some more
antibiotics for the wife to take.

The whole family down sick as a pack of dogs from stomach flu.
I figure I must have picked it up from down at the job I had last
week.
But at least my wife is looking out from inside her head again.

I'm now the one feeling best in the family ... and that's not all that
great. Going out now to get the groceries. No milk left in the
house, nor other things.

At least this seems to be a fairly fast recovering type of flu.
